Get Debt Support values the safety and privacy of its customers. With scams on the rise, we’ve created this guide to help you spot the warning signs and protect yourself from fraudsters.
Top Tips
- Avoid paying money in advance for a loan that has not been finalized
- Do not share personal or financial information unless you are certain about who you’re dealing with
- If you don’t remember applying for a loan, don’t engage with the request
Fraudsters can sometimes be very convincing, even imitating trusted companies. They may use fake letters, emails, or cold calls, promising loans that don’t exist. The goal is to trick you into handing over money upfront with the false promise of funds being released later. Always stay alert to such tactics.
Below are two common scams where criminals impersonate lenders or collection agencies. Read carefully and learn how to avoid becoming a victim.
Advance Fee Loan Scam
This scam usually involves fraudsters demanding upfront payments labeled as “fees” before approving a supposed loan. They might ask for payments through wire transfers, cash services, or prepaid debit cards like Green Dot.
These scammers are often skilled in persuasion and can convince people to part with money without realizing it.
Get Debt Support never charges upfront fees for loans or requires payments before an agreement is in place. Fraudsters may attempt to use fake loan confirmations or imitate legitimate lender documents to trick you.
Warning Signs
- Requests for money before any loan is issued
- Demanding payment via prepaid debit cards such as Green Dot
- Asking you to wire funds directly
- Sending fraudulent loan confirmations or approval notices via SMS, email, or post
Debt Collection Scam
Another frequent scam involves fake debt collectors pretending to represent legitimate lenders. These individuals may contact you by phone, attempting to recover “debts” that don’t exist, have already been cleared, or are owed to someone else entirely.
These threats do not come from Get Debt Support. Such scammers use intimidation and harassment to trick individuals into making false payments.
Warning Signs
- Threats of arrest, wage deductions, or physical harm
- Refusing to provide proper loan details or history
- Demanding payments for amounts that don’t match your loan record
